How do you monitor the H&S management of your construction sites?
One of the most important parts of a H&S Management System is monitoring the effectiveness of the systems you have implemented.
Monitoring the effectiveness allows you to identify potential failings which could result in accidents, ill health, claims, fines or prosecution.
One of the most simple ways to monitor your site is to carry out regular H&S inspections.
These can be completed internally by Site Management and should be recorded for future purposes if required.
It is important that all unsafe conditions are rectified on site but the information on the close outs are recorded too, this evidences that you’re being proactive.
Another way to monitor your sites is to have an external H&S inspection carried out. This allows a fresh pair of eyes to view your site conditions from an unbiased view. When you have your site inspected externally you must not know when the audit will take place. This is to allow a true reflection of your site to allow for continual improvement.
Reports detailing the findings should be issued with competent advice on how to mitigate any risk.
